As we head into the new season, it’s important to recognise both the challenges and the opportunities that lie ahead. Pitch space and rising operating costs will continue to test us, but when we look at how far Chester Minis & Juniors has come in recent years, there is every reason to feel proud and optimistic.

Reflecting on Progress

Only a few seasons ago, our setup looked very different. Today, thanks to the dedication of coaches, parents, and volunteers, we have:

• New goalposts across three grass pitches and an additional marked pitch on the Rose Garden

• A new car park that looks superb, accommodates more vehicles, and eases the pressure of Sunday mornings

•A proper injury reporting system, more trained first aiders, improved equipment, and full RFU RugbySafe compliance

•Strong partnerships with schools such as Bishop Heber, Kirkham Grammar School, Sedbergh and Birkenhead, creating more playing and sponsorship opportunities, as well as holiday camps

•County Cup rugby for boys from U13 upwards and Northern League, Challenge Cup, and National Cup competitions for our girls

•A growing team of qualified referees to support junior competitive fixtures

•Well-established junior midweek training on the AGP supporting and encouraging collaboration and minis also accessing structured sessions in safe environments

•A clear transition pathway for both boys and girls, supported by advanced coaching and physio care

•Colts competing in the North West A League and National Cup, training with the senior men, and starting to make the step into adult rugby

This progress has transformed what we can offer our players and their families. Chester now stands as one of the strongest environments for Minis & Juniors rugby in the region.

Looking Ahead

The 2025/26 season builds on this platform with several exciting developments:

• The launch of the RFU U14–U18 Coach Development Programme focusing on our U16’s

• The introduction of Respect Marshalls to help set the right tone on matchdays

• 24 more trained pitch-side first aiders, further strengthening our commitment to player welfare

• Additional coaching support to help juniors prepare for their entry into the pathway

• The opportunity to plan a full Minis & Juniors tour

• A renewed spirit of collaboration across all age groups, ensuring we support one another and the wider club

Final Thoughts

It’s natural to look at other clubs and make comparisons—but when you consider the facilities, pathways, and opportunities available here at Chester, there is much to value and to be proud of.

With the season kicking off properly with fixtures for all at the end of September, I would encourage coaches, parents, and players alike to appreciate what we have built together, and to look forward with confidence. Here’s to another successful season for Chester Minis & Juniors.
