This was a strong season opener from Chester, 5 tries to one writes Des Hickie.
It was built on a dominant display by their forwards in both the set-piece and in the loose, where Dom Cleverly, Callum Atkinson and Dave Jones were excellent throughout.
Chester bookended the first half with tries from driven lineouts by Ed Morris and Scott Robson. In between Morgan Bagshaw kept the scoreboard moving with 2 penalties.
Wharfedale had a strong second quarter, driven on by strong carries from George Hedley and Oliver Lacognini, who crossed for well worked try. But the second half was one-way traffic as the visitors wilted under sustained forward pressure, creating space for Chester’s backs to score tries through Louis Beer, and debutants Harvey Hebden and Wilbur Blackham, despite leaving a few more out on the pitch.
