Our Centenary season is nearing its end but there is still a lot going on. Our member’s commitment to commemorating the Centenary is clearly shown by the number of Centenary Blazers bought which has topped 65. Every other club we have played this season have all commented that they would have never sold so many!
The planning and logistics for our ‘Marquee Weekend’ are all but finalised and we are now really looking forward to celebrating. Our Centenary team have been amazed at the response to both our Martin Johnson Lunch on the Friday followed by the Centenary Ball on the Saturday with both events now just short of 600 at each.
The lunch might have something to do with Martin Johnson who I am sure is going to be brilliant. The Ball is much more of an in-house affair with the vast majority of attendees being members of the Rugby Club. We have the infamous ‘Zoot Serious’ as our live band plus a few other surprises!
The M&J’s presentation day on the Sunday has also been finalised with almost a ‘Village fete’ celebration for our Centenary. Will be interesting to see parents/coaches in action on this very busy day following the late night at the Ball!!
John Craven & Mike Dangerfield are working hard to get the ‘History of Chester RUFC’ up to date to coincide with the end of our Centenary season and these will be available by our Marquee weekend.
Another date for your diary is Friday, May 9th, when we have a Past Players match versus a North Wales select XV. It will be great to see many ex-players coming back to the club, with many getting their boots on one last time.
Everything is in place for a great event, hopefully the weather will join in. Cheers Steve
