President of this Exceptional Club

Dear Members,

As the new President of this exceptional club, I am thrilled to welcome you to what promises to be an extraordinary season – one that holds new challenges, fresh camaraderie, and the undeniable spirit of rugby.

In this exciting season of 2023/2024, we embark on a journey like no other. A brand-new league in National 2 West welcomes us, along with a host of unfamiliar names like Camborne, Redruth, Hornets, Old Redcliffians, Dings Crusaders, and Exeter University. Some of these teams had me scouring maps and references, revealing the extent of the adventure that lies ahead.

Let's also relish the chance to reunite with old acquaintances from a time when level 4 rugby meant a North/South division. Fond memories resurface of clashes against Hinckley, Luctonians, Newport, Bournville, Dudley Kingswinford, and Loughborough Students. And let's not forget Clifton – a club with which we once shared spirited battles in the pre-league rugby era.

My journey with Chester Rugby Club began with a humble admiration for the game and a deep respect for the values it instils. As I step into the role of President, I am genuinely honoured to represent a club that embodies these values so wholeheartedly.

When news initially broke that we'd be shifting sideways into the West league, some of us may have experienced reservations. However, it has been heartening to witness our players, coaches, and club members embracing this move with open arms, ready to seize the unique opportunities it presents. The anticipation is palpable as we gear up to face new teams on unfamiliar grounds, forging connections and friendships that only rugby can foster.

A special mention must go to the clubhouse, our cherished hub of camaraderie and celebration. Over the summer, it underwent a remarkable transformation, a true testament to the dedication of many. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to those who led this renewal, particularly Dougherty and Allen, who have not only championed this project but also provided the funding. I firmly believe that there's no finer place in Northern England for rugby and socializing.

In closing, I wish to express my deep sense of privilege in assuming the role of President at this venerable club. I pledge to fulfil this position with the utmost dedication, aligning with the aspirations and high standards that define Chester RUFC.

To all players and volunteers, you are the backbone of our club's success, and I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to meet each and every one of you during the season. Let's come together, share stories, and raise a toast to the sport that unites us all.

Yours in Rugby, Bill Evans – President
